The Rotary Club of Tororo-Sam Owori has ushered in a new era of leadership following the installation of its fifth president, Joel Wabulo, who succeeds Evelyn Nansubuga after the completion of her one-year term.
During the handover ceremony, the outgoing president reflected on the achievements recorded during her tenure, highlighting growth in club membership and the successful implementation of several community service projects that strengthened the club's impact in Tororo and beyond.
Upon assuming office, Wabulo unveiled an ambitious agenda that places environmental conservation, climate resilience and community service at the centre of his administration.
He announced plans to launch a large-scale community tree-planting campaign to promote environmental protection, noting that several Rotary clubs have already pledged support for the initiative.
Beyond environmental conservation, the new leadership has identified road safety as another key priority. Wabulo said the club intends to partner with Tororo Municipal Council to paint zebra crossings on major roads as part of efforts to improve pedestrian safety and reduce road traffic accidents.
The installation ceremony also marked the induction of Tororo Municipality Member of Parliament Shyam Jay Tanna and Tororo Municipality Mayor Bernard Ochieng as new Rotarians.
Speaking during the event, Tanna applauded the Rotary Club for its commitment to humanitarian service and encouraged members to leverage their professional and international networks to support improvements in healthcare services within Tororo Municipality.
He said the municipality requires stronger partnerships and technical expertise to address persistent challenges in the health sector.
Mayor Bernard Ochieng reaffirmed the municipal council's commitment to working closely with the Rotary Club on community development initiatives.
He also acknowledged concerns over the condition of Sam Owori Road, which was named in honour of the late Rotary International President-elect Sam Owori.
The mayor noted that the road, which connects to the deteriorating Nagongera Road, remains a priority for the municipality and pledged to work with the new Rotary leadership to advocate for its improvement.
